CMPA HOLDS POLICY BRIEFING WITH EFCC CHAIRMAN AND HIS TEAM

On September 25, 2024, The Executive Director, Center For Media, Policy and Accountability (CMPA) Dr. Suleiman A. Suleiman and his team paid an advocacy visit to Head Office The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission where they were received by the Executive Chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede ably represented by his Chief of Staff Mr. Michael O. Nzekwe and other top officials to discuss areas of Partnership and Collaboration to strengthen the collective fight against Corruption in Nigeria.

Dr. Suleiman reflected on CMPA’s successful partnership with the EFCC, particularly the Nigerian Anti-Corruption Performance Public Reporting (NAPPR) training workshops organized with support from the MacArthur Foundation. These workshops, which engaged Anti-Corruption Agencies (ACAs) including EFCC staff along with civil society and media stakeholders, aimed to strengthen the capacity of participants to monitor, evaluate, and report on anti-corruption efforts. The training was aimed at better equipping these key publics with the toolkits to continue the fight against corruption.

Looking ahead, Dr. Suleiman proposed continued collaboration through advanced training programs. These future sessions said would focus on performance evaluation frameworks, data analytics, and strategies for enhancing public engagement to increase the visibility and effectiveness of anti-corruption initiatives.  Mr. Nzekwe expressed the EFCC Chairman’s strong support for capacity-building initiatives, noting that Chairman Olukoyede is committed to enhancing the commission’s operational capacity and increasing its national and international visibility. He emphasized the importance of partnerships that foster knowledge exchange and strengthen anti-corruption efforts.

The meeting concluded with Dr. Suleiman being honored with the EFCC Crest as an “Anti-Corruption Ambassador,” symbolizing the recognition of his contributions to the anti-corruption cause. Both parties agreed to continue their partnership, with a focus on future training and collaboration to advance the effectiveness of Nigeria’s anti-corruption strategies.
